Info for current apprentices - Harrassment/Bullying

The Electrical Training Trust is an organisation that values and promotes equality and diversity.  ETT does not tolerate discriminatory practices of any kind.

Every apprentice should be aware that all forms of harassment are unacceptable and that everyone has a duty to behave in an acceptable manner. ETT will treat all reports of harassment with understanding and support.

A level of confidentiality consistent with an effective investigation and any subsequent action will be maintained by all those involved in any informal or formal procedure.

What is harassment?

Harassment is "to subject someone to unwanted conduct that violates that person's dignity or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for them".

Harassment can involve:

  • Sexual harassment
  • Racial harassment
  • Harassment on the grounds of disability
  • Sexual orientation harassment
  • Harassment on the grounds of religion or belief
  • Harassment on the ground of age

Harassment can be any unwanted attention of behaviour that a person finds objectionable or offensive and which makes them feel threatened or uncomfortable, leading to a loss of dignity or self-respect. It is not the intent of the harassment but the impact on the recipient that defines harassment.

What Is Bullying?

Bullying is deliberately hurtful behaviour often repeated over a period of time. These are some of the ways young people describe bullying: name calling, saying or writing nasty things, being left out of activities, being ignored, threatening behaviour, being made feel uncomfortable or scared, taking or damaging personal belongings, hitting or kicking, or being made to do things they don't want to do.

Who gets bullied?

Bullying can happen to almost anyone. It's thought eight out of 10 children/young adults are bullied at some point in their lives. If you are being bullied, you may feel scared, vulnerable and quite alone but you owe it to yourself to try and sort out the situation so that the bullying stops. Remember, no-one deserves to be bullied.

Don't be afraid to ask for help and share your problem. You might not think so, but there are many people who have had your problem in the past and many people who know how to deal with it.

If you have been, or are affected by bullying, you may find some useful help and advice by following the links below

What do you do if you feel that you have been treated unfairly?
