Recruitment process - Registration process
Registration Forms
The JIB Electrical Modern Apprenticeship Programme commences September each year. To register for the Electrical Apprenticeship, you must obtain an ETT Registration Form from your local Careers Service Office (see www.jobcentreonline.com for details of your nearest office). Registration Forms are normally available from Easter each year.
Registration Forms cannot be obtained directly from the ETT office
Attached to your ETT registration Form will be comprehensive notes on how to complete the form. These notes include important information about procedures for registering for the Electrical Apprenticeship. Failure to read these notes carefully could result in your Registration Form being returned, thus causing a delay in securing a place on the Electrical Apprenticeship.
We also recommend that you make use of the Checklist which accompanies the Registration Form.
These documents are also available to download here.
Health Requirements
Once you have obtained an ETT Registration Form, it will be necessary to arrange an appointment with your Doctor. You will need to provide evidence from your Doctor to verify that you are medically fit to undertake an Electrical Apprenticeship. Your Doctor will be required to answer a number of questions on the ETT Registration Form as well as signing, dating and applying the surgery stamp to the Form.
You will also be required to make an appointment with an Optician to have a colour vision test. The Optician is required to sign, date and apply the practice stamp to the Registration Form to verify colour vision.
Entry to the industry is not allowed if you suffer from colour blindness
Employer
You must obtain a suitable Northern Ireland registered Electrical Contracting Employer before a place on the Electrical Apprenticeship can be secured. Failure to obtain a suitable Employer will prevent entry onto the Electrical Apprenticeship.
Your Employer will be required to complete Section B of the Registration Form. This section should only be complete by the Employer if they have definitely confirmed that they will take you on as apprentice electrician in September.
Securing an Employer can be a lengthy process. We recommend you start to think about this as early as possible. Where possible, ETT will provide assistance to help you find an Employer, but, essentially, it's down to you.
Remember, you cannot start your apprenticeship unless you have secured a suitable full-time Employer.
Examinations
You will be required to make a note of all examinations that you have or are about to undertake on the Registration Form. You must record each subject, the associated level and result.
If you have already obtained the necessary GCSE's or required results from a previous year, please ensure that a photocopy of either your GCSE Certificates or Awarding Body Statement is forwarded to us along with your Registration Form.
For those applicants who are awaiting receipt of GCSE results in August, simply record this on the form. We would ask you to ensure that photocopies of all of your results (GCSE Certificate or Awarding Body Statement) are provided to us as soon as they become available. We cannot accept Achievement Records from your National Record of Achievement or School Examination print outs.
Please do NOT send original certificates as we cannot guarantee their safe return.
Training Credit
To secure a place on the Electrical Apprenticeship you must obtain a Level 2/3 Apprenticeship Training Credit from your local Careers Service Office. You will be required to make an appointment with Careers Service Staff to obtain the Training Credit.
Training Credits are normally available from June onwards. When you have obtained your Training Credit please ensure that you forward it immediately to ETT.
College Allocation
ETT will allocate your place at a local College. In most cases, it is possible to be placed in a College of your preference, although this cannot be guaranteed. All communications relating to College placement should be made through ETT. The ETT Registration Form asks you to indicate the College that you would prefer to attend.
Ensure that both you and your parent/guardian has signed and dated the Registration Form before returning it to ETT at the following address:
The Monitoring OfficerUnits 57 – 59 Ballymena Business Centre
62 Fenaghy Road
Galgorm
Ballymena

Do not return Registration Forms to your local College or Careers Service Office. They must be returned directly to ETT as soon as possible after completion.
Remember to make use of the Notes and Checklist which accompany the ETT Registration Form.
What happens when I return my Registration Form to ETT?
When ETT is in receipt of your Registration Form, all of your details will be logged onto the organisations internal Data Management System. It is important to remember that places will be allocated on the basis of the date on which the original Registration Form is post marked by ETT.
As soon as we are in receipt of your Registration Form, a progression letter will be sent to the address which you provided on your Registration Form. An ETT Industry Training Officer will also be allocated to you. They will keep in touch with you throughout the process regarding the progression of your registration.
If any sections of your Registration Form are incomplete, we will return your original Registration Form with instructions regarding completion Do not worry if your Registration Form is returned - as we have already logged your details on the system and have a copy of your Registration Form on file.
Once you have met all of the entry criteria, we will generate a Start Notification, which is sent to both you and your Employer. Generally, the Electrical Apprenticeship commences the 2nd week in September, the first week being College-based for the purposes of registration, essential induction covering the structure of the programme and the requirements of the VQ Portfolio, as well as CSR Health & Safety training.
