About the apprenticeship - The job

Your job as an apprentice electrician will vary and will be dependent upon the type and range of work that your employer does. During the course of the apprenticeship, you will develop a broad range of technical knowledge and practical skills to enable you to carry out your work safely and correctly.

Some of the duties that you will be expected to carry out include:

  • Work indoors and outdoors and be prepared to work at heights
  • Be prepared to travel and work away from home
  • Develop good working relationships with all relevant people
  • Understand wiring systems
  • Select (within limits) materials and equipment
  • Inspect and test electrical installations
  • Diagnose and rectify faults on a range of circuits and equipments
  • Install, maintain and repair electrical services both in and outside of buildings

To be successful and gain your NVQ Level 3 qualification, you need to be focused and prepared to work hard. You must be serious, committed and aware of your responsibilities both at work and at college.
