Meeting the standard!

Most electricians who commenced their apprenticeship with ETT during 2006 and prior will have received training based upon the 16th Edition BS 7671 Standard.
The 2006 cohort of ETT apprentices have been provided with directed learning and examination on the 16th Edition as part of the first two years of their technical studies.
During year three and four of the apprenticeship, this cohort has been assessed via the NVQ system at Level 3 in regard to a working knowledge only of the 17th Edition.
We recommend that all 2006 apprentice entrants undertake accredited and certified training to the current edition of the IEE Regulations.
Electrical workers, who commenced an ETT apprenticeship during 2007, will have received training to the 16th Edition in year one and the 17th Edition in year two of the training programme. This cohort will subsequently have been assessed to the 17th Edition of BS7671 during year three and four as part of the final qualification.
The training and assessment acquired by the 2007 intake group may be considered sufficient for the purposes of recognising achievement of the 17th Edition.
Other training providers may not be compliant with the requirements of the agreed industry SSC framework for electrical installation. Accordingly some anomaly may exist outside of the ETT and DELNI Electrical Apprentice programme.
