Job Description: Our Apprenticeship Programme is approved by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), and delivered in partnership with the Northern Regional College (NRC). Successful applicants will embark on a 4 year Apprenticeship Programme, before completing a qualifying Junior Engineer year. There are no upper age restrictions for applicants. A GES Automation Apprentice is expected to:
  • Develop skills in all aspects of panel building - assisting and shadowing competent Engineers with the task at hand, including developing proficiency in the safe use of equipment, the ability to read electrical drawings, assemble panels according to specifications, and test under supervision, etc.
  • Complete Job Cards, Time Sheets and other documentation, as required, fully and on time.
  • Communicate with customers and suppliers; including providing good levels of customer service.
  • Repair, maintain, and inspect customer equipment in-situ and on-site, as required.
  • Be responsible for good Health and Safety practice in the workplace, for both personal actions and omissions that may impact upon colleagues, customers, the public, etc. Young Workers (under 18) must take particular care in an unfamiliar, industrial environment. This is a legal Duty of Care.
  • Ensure workstations, tools, and equipment are maintained in good condition, and that the 5S Housekeeping Policy is maintained.
  • Work for other Departments within the Company from time-to-time as is required.
  • Undertake reasonable Ad Hoc duties, as required, according to the needs of the business. This list is not exhaustive and reasonable duties deemed to be beneficial to the individual or the organisation may also form part of these Roles and Responsibilities.

Experience Required

Minimum Experience and Qualifications:

Essential Criteria

Applicants must hold a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C, or equivalent, including Maths, English and at least one Science-related subject. Applicants with A Level passes in Maths, Science, or Technology, or who have some work experience in an Engineering discipline, may be better suited to the programme.

Desired Criteria

The ability to work at heights and/or in confined spaces is a pre-requisite, and applicants must not be colour blind. Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be flexible to work outside of “normal working hours” if required, and have the ability to travel to work at client locations.
