EAL Level 3 Award in The Requirements of Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems for Buildings
This 2 day training course covers the full content of BS 5839-1:2017, Fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings. Part 1 covers the Code of practice for design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of systems in non-domestic premises.
Who is this course for?
It is intended for learners/engineers who are working in the fire-sector of the electrical industry and wish to update or refresh their understanding of this essential BSI publication. It may also be useful to electricians to gain an understanding of the standard. This course is suitable for enforcing authorities, designers, installers and maintenance personnel responsible for fire alarm systems.
It is recommended that learners have completed a recognised electrical apprenticeship, or as a minimum hold qualifications covering inspection and testing, and a current qualification to the wiring regulations. The guided learning hours attributed to this qualification assume the average learner will be involved in the electrical contracting industry.
Course Overview
This award covers the full content of BS 5839-1:2017, fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings. Part 1 covers the Code of practice for design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of systems in non-domestic premises.
On completion of this course the participant should:
- Understand general requirements of BS 5839-01 2017
- Understand design considerations for fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings
- Understand the requirements in relation to the responsibility for the limitation of false alarms and unwanted fire alarm signals
- Understand the requirements of BS 5839-01 2017 in relation to the installation of fire detection and fire alarm systems
- Understand the requirements of BS 5839-01 2017 in relation to the commissioning and handover of fire detection and fire alarm systems
- Understand the requirements of BS 5839-01 2017 in relation to the maintenance of fire detection and fire alarm systems
- Understand the requirements of BS 5839-01 2017 in relation to the user’s responsibilities of fire detection and fire alarm systems
- Understand the information contained within the annexes of BS 5839-01 2017
Assessment
Following completion of the course, you will be required to attend the ETT exam centre [date will be provided at the beginning of your course] to complete an online multiple-choice exam. This is a 1hr 40 minute open-book examination with 50 questions. Successful candidates will receive an EAL Certificate.
Please note that you must bring photographic ID such as a passport or driving license with you to sit the assessments on this training course. Your first attempt at the exam is included in the price of this course. Any subsequent resits will incur a fee of £75.
In accordance with awarding body rules, ETT provide candidates with a clean publications for use during the exam. You are not permitted to bring your own book/publications into the exam centre.
