Achieving your goal of becoming a qualified and graded JIB Electrician does not necessarily mean that you need to halt your personal development in the workplace. Today we talk about "Life Long Learning" opportunities. This term is often used to encourage people to think about their own prospects for continuous personal development and career progression.
The Building Services Engineering Sector (BSE) is, for the greater part, becoming a more dynamic and technological driven industry. There is an immediate and growing need for new people in many of the existing and developing specialist positions. Some of these are highlighted and briefly described below:
M&E Coordinator
This is a very specialist position and has become a requirement with many of the larger M&E Building Services Companies and also with some Main Contractors involved in development work. The role calls for people with experience in site management and who also have some design and Computer Aided Drawing skills. Salary range £30-40k
Electrical Estimator
Most medium to large Electrical Contractors will employ at least one in-house Estimator. This person will be dedicated to measuring and pricing work using drawings and specifications. Today Estimating makes great use of IT systems to speed up and improve the accuracy in the Tendering process. Salary range £25-35k
Site Supervisor
This term usually describes those in the company that oversee and manage a number of contracts for the owner of the business. This type of position involves a number of specialist areas, including health & safety, quality, productivity and close contact with the client and professional bodies. Salary range £30-45k
Foreman
The role of the Foreman on any contract is often the key factor to the success of the job. This is an important position, and one that most discerning employer's value, as it is the Foreman who usually has the most informed knowledge about the day to day running of the job. Salary range £28-35k
CAD Operator
Computer Aided Design skills are an increasing requirement with many Electrical Contractors. This is a recognised profession in itself but opportunities do present themselves from time to time to qualified Electricians with some Employers who become involved in Design and Build Contracts. Salary range £25-30k
