Cleantech Electrical Training Academy Launched to Upskill Local Electricians in Antrim and Newtownabbey

Antrim and Newtownabbey Labour Market Partnership (LMP) has launched the Cleantech Upskilling Electrical Training Academy with ETTNI, a new fully funded programme designed to equip local electricians with the skills needed in renewable energy and low-carbon technologies

The academy will recruit 15 qualified electricians and electrical professionals from the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough to up to three of the qualifications offered which include:

• Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installation & Maintenance
• Electrical Energy Storage Systems (Battery Storage)
• Domestic & Small Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Installations.

Training will take place at ETT’s Cleantech Training Centre in Ballymena, combining hands-on practical sessions alongside classroom based training and formal assessment.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Leah Kirkpatrick added: “This fully funded academy demonstrates our commitment to equipping local people with the skills needed for a greener future, while supporting economic growth across the Borough.”

ETT Project Lead, Tina McMullan said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for local electricians to gain the skills and recognised qualifications needed to move into in the growing renewable energy sector. It’s about upskilling the electrical workforce, supporting local businesses, and contributing to Northern Ireland’s green economy.”

As Northern Ireland moves towards a low-carbon future and net-zero emissions by 2050, qualified electricians play a crucial role in the safe and efficient installation of renewable and low-carbon technologies. The Cleantech Upskilling Electrical Training Academy will help participants retain employment, access promotion opportunities, and secure new contracts, driving economic growth in the region.

Applications are now open for electricians with the necessary qualifications to enrol in accredited Level 3 courses. Interested candidates in the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough can apply by E. info@ett-ni.org

Funded by the Department for Communities, Labour Market Partnerships create targeted employment action plans for council areas, allowing for collaboration at local and regional level to support people towards and into work.
